Hotel restaurants are typically hit or miss for me. Most of the ones I’ve been to are too fancy or don’t have any options I like. Some of them are nice, and luckily I have enjoyed a few.

Lobby level of the Sheraton Dallas hotel has a restaurant called Open Palette. This was my first decision when I woke up at 12PM on one of my days in Texas. To be more precise, it was one of the easiest places to go. I knew almost nothing about Dallas, as the last time I was even close to the area I was in Fort Worth. And before that, it was 2007. Not exactly the same place.

Food

Coffee.

Luckily, Open Palette does serve coffee. I immediately grabbed some, as I would be needing it. My week and day ahead were going to be hectic, or at least packed.

As far as coffee is concerned, this was good. A bit of cream and it served me quite well for the rest of my day. Certainly woke me up, which is always a point in its favor.

Cheesy flatbread.

My choice of meal was a cheesy flatbread that they served for lunches. I don’t believe Open Palette has breakfast, but if it did I missed it anyway. The flatbread was the most appetizing idea on my empty stomach, and I don’t regret having it. The cheese was good, and the lack of toppings luckily didn’t feel bare (like some cheese pizzas). If you’re going to have lunch here, though, I would recommend trying something more elaborate. I just wasn’t in the mood at the time.

Finally, the pear crisp I had for dessert. That was good. Crispy, a little ice cream on top, and very, very hot.
